If you plan to go for AMD then avoid ASUS mobos. Coz Asus boards have poor support for linux. Google it, u`ll know. Still if are sure you want to buy ASUS, then go for the ones with NVIDIA chipsets. The ASUS mobos with SiS chipsets suck!

I have an ASUS mobo and it does have SiS....however, I am using Redhat Linux 9.0 and things work fine. I recently tried installing sound card driver and messed up my kernel. Now it loads some modules forcibly..
I feel; by default, ASUS for linux is not bad..but if linux is tweaked or tampered then may be it wud become bad. RH9 did detect my SiS chipsets and things are working almost normal (except the sound ....)
Even then, I would recommed you to go "INTEL Motherbords and Processors"...but it also depends on the budget you have and the kind of work to be done.
However, if its more of work in graphics and stuff...and linux.... then I would recommend going only for INTEL instead of AMD.
All the best!

I would like to chime in here. I have an Intel mobo (not intel chipset based but one manufactured by intel). It works "perfectly" (touch wood) out of the box with FC :) cant say that about ASUS :(
