Sound works on Windows . So hardware is not an issue.
Could you be a little descriptive? Do you mean absoloutely no sound, or not able to play mp3 songs? Do you hear the sound when you login?
Thanks Nilesh for responding. Sorry for being incomplete. I get no sound at all . I get this response for aplay -l

If you are sure your sound card is up then open the sound mixer and check for low volume levels or mute being on. Many a times, initially sound levels are down or muted.
I did get the sound started but very low volume, almost not audible. That after I corrected
1. Mistaken port for the speaker pin 2. mixer : choice of hardware
I am still not happy. I dont know what is my mistake now. I will keep trying.

Try out different model types if your issue is being able to hear sound through headphones but not through speakers.
