The installation went smoothly with no manual correction needed to grub.

The machine was an HCL one with Pentium 2.8 Ghz. Dual Core, Gigabyte 955 mobo and 512 MB RAM with 15" LCD screen and DVD writer. OS was Vista Home basic.

Kubuntu 7.04 64 bit was used to first boot live and test his Tata Indicom LG FWP.

( The Tata dealer had assured him of driver compatibility with Vista but after the purchase, could not keep it up. Tata CC guys put their hands up too.)

The standard LG wvdial.conf worked and net was up and running. Installation was smooth just like other Kubuntus and after reboot we first booted into Vista to see if everything was ok. It was all fine. Since his 3rd partition was a 44 GB one, I had split it into 30 GB for FAT32, and the remaining for Linux root and swap. In Vista the 30 GB formatted vfat did not show up on My Computer. In the disk management, that partition was manually assigned a drive letter. Then it got visible and usable.

For multimedia support in Kubuntu 7.04, I was looking for the repo list on the net but found nothing for Feisty. So from the same site http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/2663/how-to_get_full , the text

'## Canonical 'Commercial' Repository deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu edgy-commercial main'

was appended to the /etc/apt/sources.list file and the word 'edgy' was replaced with 'feisty'.

In the command,

'sudo apt-get install totem-xine totem-xine-firefox-plugin libxine-extracodecs flashplugin-nonfree msttcorefonts sun-java5-plugin skype banshee streamtuner xmms realplay f-spot' (remove totem packages as they are for gnome)

some of the softwares are not available so apt-get will throw errors. Eliminate the ones not available and the rest essential ones will get downloaded. As it became late and net was slow, I had to leave and could not test multimedia support. Otherwise the system is up and running on the net.
