Hi friends and tuxers,
I dont know how much you understand about the internal workings of the
processor but the Core 2 Duo is radically different from the Pentium D. Core 2 Duo is based on the Pentium-M architecture while P-D is based on the old Prescott arch. Prescott inherently had a lot of heating issue and it had reached its limitations. Pentium-D is also basically two Prescott cores stuck to each other while Core 2 Duo is designed to be a dual core processor.
Mind you, Core 2 Duo will cost you exactly twice of whatever equivalent P-D will cost you. C2D is gives much more performance per clock cycle and is about 40% more efficient than the regular Pentium 4 processor.
About buying this processor, well, insist that you want to buy a Core 2 Duo processor which is DIFFERENT from the Dual Core Pentium processor. Initially my hardware vendor too was confused! :P
do get it exchanged core2 duo is really good than pentium d well you as per my knowledge you will also need to change the mobo for that
Ya,that's true, but what is the price difference for the board + Core 2 Duo v/s pentium D+D101GGC board?I have a friendly reseller coz i contacted him through a cousin who's a regular customer and bought an entire new PC from him!
P-D with D101GGC board will cost you 9500-10000INR with 512MB RAM C2D with DG965RYCK will cost you around 24000INR with 512MB RAM
My Intel Express Installer Driver CD shows D101GGC.Is it that D102GGC also
uses the same driver installer CD?
No. 102 has a different installer CD.
So,it is the D101GGC board. Can i use my present 512 MB RAM with DG965RYCK or corresponding desktop motherboard in only *essential* series of boards?coz i am no hardcore gamer or anything,i just wnt to ensure my pc doesn't go to the junk heap within a few years.

101 GGC uses DDR RAM. 102 GGC and 965 RYCK use DDR2.
