I __may__ be coming to Mumbai in the next month. Anyone want the latest Debian? Or Redhat or whatever -- I can bring stuff which has ISO images available (and legal only, so don't ask for XP). I'll bring Debian for my box in Mumbai. It's 3.0r0 from an HTTP mirror in Austria.
Or do we already have that? If I can borrow someone's installer for the latest stable Debian, I won't bring it along.

I'll probaly get Knoppix, too, so if anyone wants a copy, drop me a line.
PS: Yes, there'll probably be a small charge, order of 10-50 rupees, to cover duplication costs and such. Sorry these messages aren't marked 'Commercial'. This isn't really a commercial enterprise anyway.

Could you get Knoppix ( or copy it ) for me too and if you are getting debian CDs then i would also like a copy. I could burn them or take them from you either ways.

no Problem ! :-)

Okay, whoever wants anything, tell me exactly what:
Debian 3.0r(1?) CD 1-6 (any or all of the CDs, i.e. you can ask for CD 1-2, CD 1,3,4, or all, or CD 1...)
Knoppix
anything else? If you wanted Linux merchandise (Tshirts?), let me know. You'll have to cover full cost for that, and I may not have space in my bags. It's in fact very unlikely, but if anyone wants desperately... :-)
Send a private reply. Exact prices will be discussed by private email. Rs.15-20 per CD, which covers CD cost (approx. 35 cents per blank CD). You'll have to come and pick them up at a suitable location somewhere along Western line between Bandra and Dadar, or townside, sometime around Jan 26-Feb 20.
Do IIT and TIFR (or anyone else) want to borrow my copy for mirroring? Borrowing is going to be free but very limited, since I will travel with the CDs and I don't have much time to be running around Mumbai.
Please be very clear whether you want to borrow CDs or buy them.
And if there is any problem with any of this, drop me a private email.
Debian 3.0r1 contains 7 CDs. From the READMEs:
The programs on the Binary CDs are ordered by popularity. The Binary-1 CD contains the most popular programs and the installation tools; it is possible to install and run Debian with only the Binary-1 CD. The other CDs, up to Binary-7, contain mostly special-interest programs.
And I am not bringing the NONUS version of disc 1 unless someone specifically wants that.

Heh. You must be under the impression that Mumbai is in the Andamans or something... '-)
I have got ~300Mb of 3.0 from http.us.debian.org et.al. It has most what I would use.

Nah man. I am with Satya. It is often a huge pain in the ass to download 3cds worth of data(redhat in this case) even over cable connection as the connection is so damm slow. As a result, not every linux user can afford(timewise and/or moneywise) to upgrade to the newest version of his/her favorite distro as soon as it is released. Also, not all the ppp people can afford to do "apt-get upgrade" or "emerge world" every night. Such a noble gesture can definitely help these people.

Actually, my cable connection is faster than my DSL. But I have dialup in Mumbai. Don't bother trying to convince me to get anything else.

I'll just bring Debian and Knoppix for myself, then.
dear luggers, when you download debian dont download the iso using wget, what i mean to say is dont download .iso files. use jigdo instead its faster you can find more information about it at www.debian.org/CD

Well, at IIT ( and probably other places ), we maintain a mirror of debian/kernel/GNU/RH-updates ( updated nightly ).
Although setting it up for external access has been a problem ( policy decision mainly, about external b/w consumption ), getting CDs from IITians at LUG meets shouldn't be a problem.
The only problem we face is very little interaction with people outside of IIT ( call us lazy, or call us busy ;-( )
Can't attend tomorrow's meeting as well ( submission deadline ). Sameer, if you are going to the meeting, you could take some CDs?

As people must have noticed ... trying to catch up on the LUG by going throuh 1200+ mails since December! I wasn't there for the meeting - my MTech Defense was on Monday. But normally, its no hassle burning CD's ... just let me know in advance.
Sameer.
