[root@rhel5 src]# rpm -ivh bind-9.5.0-25.1.b2.fc8.src.rpm error: bind-9.5.0-25.1.b2.fc8.src.rpm: Header SHA1 digest: BAD Expected(17fdf6bc865e18049b5b676cd033278d6315c2ce) != (d8bc2f1f6b9fec9fc5913627ab017e371026d58d) error: bind-9.5.0-25.1.b2.fc8.src.rpm cannot be installed

I think source RPMs are meant to be compiled first and then installed. So that could be one explanation or the other is that you've got a corrupt RPM and hence the checksum is failing.

Bad checksum = the package download is corrupted.

the OP usually posts his questions to several mailing lists - and gives a prize for the first mailing list to answer correctly. In this case ilughyd won - better luck next time ;-)

ok - I tried to be polite. Cross posting is a serious breach of mailing list etiquette - and Agnello has been indulging in it for too long - we are trying to educate him - so please bug out.

The srpm seems to be corrupt.
Also, why the f8 srpm? Even though I don't expect it to make much of a difference, but you can get the Centos sources at the link below. http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5.1/os/SRPMS/

How can a src rpm be directly installed? Is this a new feature in the later rpm based distros?

Installing a srpm dumps it's contents in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES.
