If its bandwidth intensive then forget it. Individuals in India don't have sufficient bandwidth to contribute to such things. And those who have bandwidth have stupid data transfer restrictions ;)
Nevertheless this is a good initiative :)
BTW I have a box which operates almost 24x7. I would like to join, if only I had the bandwidth. 64Kbps (more like 48Kbps) aint much!

it is a bit bandwidth intensive & i agree with the point that u make too.. wht i meant was if u dont have issues like download limit or bandwidth issues then u can make ur comps useful for a good cause.. thts all..

We discussed this when the list guidelines were reviewed on this list a few months back. Looks like it did not make into the version that is online http://www.ilug-bom.org.in/Data/Objects/M/MailingListGuidelines/viewObject
Personally, I am afraid today's mobile SMS culture will eventually become a dialect similar to ebonics in the US; the next generation will come into the workforce unable to write a paragraph without reverting to SMS.

A lot less bandwidth, but also not of practical use. You might want to try http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ . Also see http://www.mersenne.org/
BOINC actually isn't as flexible as d.net, connection-wise. It's still better than being online 24x7.
Unless you have a super-gigahertz CPU, don't run BOINC's climate prediction. Each work unit takes months.

I have a P1 166MHz MMX with 128MB RAM :)
Then you should definitely avoid it.

Hehe. Well thats just my router. I have a P4 2.8GHz with HT. But I dont think I will keep it on 24x7. Consumes too much power. Though it doesnt heat up...
