Hi all,
I have installed JRE 1.4.0 downloaded from Sun Microsystems. I am trying to run a java applet in Mozilla, but I am facing an unusual problem. When I am running mozilla as a normal user, it crashes if I try to load the java applet. But if I run mozilla as root, then the java applet is correctly loaded and runs smoothly. I can't figure out the problem. I read the java installation docs and the setup seems to be perfectly allright. I have also checked out mozilla.org. But my problem is a bit different, since the applet is running if I run mozilla as root, but not otherwise. Any pointers ?
I am using Red Hat Linux 8.0. (Full Installation - i.e. installed all the packages), and Mozilla 1.0.1.
Regards, Rajen.
P.S. 1 : I still haven't found a solution for being able to use all the fonts (True Type) installed on the system, while using some gtk+ applications. Eg. Abiword, Gnumeric, Gedit, etc. I had posted a mail earlier in this regard. Still awaiting for some feedback.
P.S. 2: For Pine users moving towards GUI, I recommend Open Webmail (a Web based Email Client). Has most (not all) of the features of Pine. Additionally has facility for accessing POP3 mails. What I miss most is the keystrokes of Pine. With Mozilla, I have yet to get used to finding the right keys. But GUI users comfortable with using mouse should find it worth giving a try.

Check out bugzilla.mozilla.org. Search for "applet crash". There are 39 bugs, most of them critical. If none of these matches yours, file a new one with a proper testcase. Without knowing what the applet does it's difficult to give any help unless this is a very well known problem.

Consider upgrading to mozilla 1.3 if you have the option. Sometimes upgrading to the latest version automagically disappears the problem.

have you checked the perms of the file /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so (or something java.so)
