Yes. They both can stay on one system but not on one partition

is it easy to use linux like windows on a standalone machine?

It would be a bit time consuming using it at the initial stages as you would expect things to be as it in windows (which is not the case)

can i learn to use linux basic by myself if install in on my machine?

Yes, if you wish to and you are determined that you can learn it. You can also install it on your machine on you own. However, there are distros (if you are a bit paranoid) which can be run directly through the CD's.

Yes surely...and u need not install third party utilities as *many* distros (forgot, different distributions of linux are called distros) come with good bunch of applications.

No worrying about Viruses worms etc....

Digit Magazine was one where I obtained Three CD's of Redhat Linux 9.0

However, if you have a good internet connection (>64 Kbps) you can download from

http://knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html (Linux disto that can Run from CD)

http://fedora.redhat.com (Most widely used in Indian offices (Redhat based linux) , which, u have to install...

and there are just many more...

However, I wud recommend to start with Knoppix.

After you download the ISO of Knoppix, you have to burn the image (I hope you know the options in NERO) and use it.

Then u change your first bootable device in BIOS to CD-ROM/Writer and put the CD in the corresponding drive before your OS boots.
