Folks, I installed the xfree86 server and configured it for my card etc.. I have also installed all the required font packages. But when I startx the server says it cannot find default font 'fixed' and stops.
What could be the problem?
thanks, q

ummm... cant try this '1' out - I am running debian unstable and I have only /etc/init.d/xfs not /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs '-)
I do not have xfs installed, rather xfs-xtt - and it is already running.
nd letus know....;).
the problem still persists. :)

well as the monitor has not fried itself for the past 5 years - and it certainly has not upgraded itself :) (still 800x600@56Hz) - I dont think it will fry now. '-)... you can sure sleep easy. :D
just kiddin...;)
me too. :D
q p.s. maybe it is that for installing online I had borrowed a NIC and installed the driver. Now that I dont have the eth0 anymore. The xserver also complains (at the immideate start) that host name lookup failed. May be it has something to do with this problem?
