This takes me to another topic, Major problems in the world exist because people don't percieve things in the same way. Everyone has their own point of view about things. Even i have one but most of the times i don't let my EGO blurr the actual view.
I have a philosophical question..if you have a view..its your view, then is it the actual view? How do you differentiate the 'actual' view from your view?
So yes i agree that i have posted mails with an unacceptable "signal to noise ratio" and i have changed that. But sometimes rather than following the HERD and coming up with such comments on someone you should try and think about all the possible reasons for a person to do something.
shucks...i thought and i thought...the most plausible reason i could come up with was that - you just didnt think before posting....
And in this case i don't think i have done anything wrong.
There is no right or wrong in this world.Only appropriate and inappropriate ;-) So..you are right..you havent done anything 'wrong',
But as they say advice is something the wise don't give and the fools don't take ( i know people will reply to this specific statement of mine (thats my perception :) ) Yes i have realized that my mail signatures were unncessarily HUGE and have reduced it.

Hi,
I recently installed red hat 7.2, and notices that my entries in /etc/fstab get changed after every reboot.
I am not 100% sure, but I think the dir I created under /mnt also disappears.
I had no such problems in 6.2. What has changed ?
Thanks Shahed
PS : Where do I search the list archives ? The last time I looked, I saw no means of doing a web search on the archive.

pretty strange. could you give us the contents of /etc/fstab immediately before and after the reboot. Also show the output of ls -lc /etc/fstab before and after, and the exact time (according to your system) of the reboot.

Venue: KReSIT, IIT Bombay Date: Sunday, 8th Dec 2002 Time: 4pm
You can get directions from the KReSIT webpage http://www.it.iitb.ac.in/
I think 4pm is better, since that will give us 3hrs so that people can push off by 7pm.

There is a saying in Hindi that "Agar Kaala chasma pehno, to duniya kaali nazar aati hai". You have a blurred view of this community. If you have problems accepting other people's view, may I remind you that this mailing list also has a unsubscribe option. I think it is futile to write such acerbic mails and invite flames. Don't curse the whole community if you don't get along with us.
Which gets me to ask myself a question....do these great intelligent people really care about GNU/Linux and this mailing list or do they care more about showing off their egos here.
Yes we do. Every community has some rules, some written and some commonly accepted. Probably you want your ego to be stroked, which has not happened and hence you are cross with us.
Major problems in the world exist because people don't percieve things in the same way. Everyone has their own point of view about things.
Exactly. At the same time tolerance of other's view however contrary to your own have to be accepted.
But if someone still wants me to teach netiqutte this is what i would have to say to that person. @#!@#!#!
Kiran,
Yes my dear friend i could've been better off..but i did this with a reason. and i really don't care what you have to say.
The above is a classic example of "I don't want your advice, I know I am always right" attitude.
So don't get personal and learn to tolerate other people's views. And this includes this mail as well.

I don't know why everybody likes to use the big bad e-word these days. And I really hope that the impression you convey about the list is borne out of your anger rather than real experience working with the people here. In case you havn't noticed, a lot of problems get solved, many people get introduced to new concepts on this list.
We feel it is important for everyone to follow certain guidelines when posting exactly because we are interested in helping as many people as we can. Now everyone here is a volunteer, with their own work and other loads of email to answer to as well. The guidelines are meant to keep things convenient for _as many_ people as possible.
Help people help you ... writing clear messages makes it easier for others to get to the point and see what they can do about your problem. It's not possible to go through every mail that comes in on all these mailing list, that too only in our free time. We keep cribbing about mailing strategies because we are keen to make maximum use of our time - no one on this list can be expected to take the efforts of going through an ill-written mail and still feel like helping the OP. But we do want to make sure we don't miss an opportunity to help.
Basically to answer your question, there is no doubt whether we care about GNU/Linux - our activities speak for themselves. But YES, we also care about people joining this list, which is the reason we are so persistent in making sure people understand the importance of writing good emails.
