Ok, so maybe not the best forum, but I have seen hardware related queries, so following the precedent. Hoping someone can help me out.
Hardware: motherboard: Asus ASUS A7266-MX-UAYZ with onboard Video/Lan/Sound and AGP slot. Processor: ATHLON xp 2100+ Video Card: VideoGF FX 5200 256 MB AGP card. Memory: 2 Dimms of 512 MB Each (different companies) but 400 Mhz totaling 1024 MB.
Problem: The AGP Card causes the system to hang when it reaches the memory test stage. If I keep pressing "del", I can get into the bios. If I keep pressing ESC, I can get it to skip the memory test and the system comes up. If I fail to do the above, the keyboard is rendered lifeless and I have to hard boot.
Without the AGP Card it works fine and the memory test takes place and system comes up OK.
Any clues? Is it in the BIOS? Thanks Abhi

even if we were to get into semantics, contextually speaking, the use of the term "forum" was not inappropriate. As I have used to much bandwidth already, but as well add something useful via-a-vis the original request.
To answer about the Disabling of Onboard Video. Yes, it has onboard video, but the card was detected and it currently used (it did an override on the onboard).
Have already looked at the bios. There was no option to disable the onboard. Have not yet tinkered with the motherboard. So could the memory test fail be because of onboard not been explicitly disabled?
To make it clear, if i keep "escaping" as soon as I boot, it cancels the memory check and all loads up fine.
I will be now checking this card in another machine to eliminate possibilities.

on board cards usually 'steal' some ram from the main ram. u could also check this setting - i found it screws up redhat and debian installs if the 'legacy ram' is not set up properly

Its prolly the AGP card. Try putting in a different one. If that works then its your card otherwise try updating the BIOS and stuff...

A 256 MB AGP card? Wow! Is your mobo geared up to take this might? What does the Asus manual or on-site information say about your mobo's largest AGP capacity?
