We are designing a new site for our college GLUG. We would also like to have a wiki. Now could anyone tell me (or point an URL) as to how to configure a wiki from scratch? Meanwhile I shall try the Google route too.

To start with, you can follow these instructions for MediaWiki: http://db.glug-bom.org/wiki/index.php/Setup_a_MediaWiki
Also note that there are better wiki software avaliable than MediaWiki. Moinmoin is an excellent and safe alternative as PHP based wikis are known to have security issues.
