GPRS modems work pretty well with Debian / RH 9 etc ... but Orange connection for 99 allows you to surf only from the phone and use MMS to use phone as modem you have to pay orange another Rs 499 pm ( total 599) and your access speed depends on speed of phone modem and time of the day :)
I used a Motorola v66 which has a 14.4 / 28.8 modem so I never got a speed better than 2Kbps download.

No, I had this major argument with Orange guys and finally they set it correctly. It is not necessary to have the 99 to use the 499. They guys at the orange shop dont know anything about GPRS. If you plant to use gprs for surfing from PC only, (not from mobile handset), dont take 99, just take 499.

You will have major problems locating drivers for the phone for linux. If you find some place to get it, then let me know the site since I also want to get drivers for my phone - sony ericsson T310.

The 99 pm scheme is only for wap. It does not support http protocol. It will work only on wap browsers on the phone. It will also not work on the email clients that are normally provided in mobiles and will not work on java browsers you install on the mobile.

Orange 25-35kbps throughput. Others, cant say. It is ok for mail and light surfing. I have noticed that if you actively use more than 2 browser windows, you will have problem......
But Nokia gprs is pathetic. You are not likely to get speed over 14Kon that phone.
shall i go for it?
