I've install Debian Linux on my mahine. Now I want = to install my CANNON Deskjet BJC 2100SP printer in the same. Pls. help me a= nd tell the process to install the same. Also tell how can I add new hardwa re in my machine and get installed in linux.

If your desktop is kde then klick - start icon, settings, control center, peripherals, printers, add printer, After adding your printer, start the cups printing daemon - /etc/ init.d/cups start. Also add the application rcconf using apt. rcconf simplifies the task of enabling / removing daemons. You can set cups to start automatically on boot. Fairly simple.

you have to insert the neccessary modules. modprobe <whatever> what hardware? lspci will display all the hardware as recognised by the internal chipset ids - much more useful than vague taiwanese mufacturere's names.
Run printtool command in the GUI terminal for the configuration of the printere and for detecting new hardware run kudzu.

I am not sure but does debian have kudzu. I think knoppix has kudzu, and is great for autodetecting devices..

Download the foomatic debs. In case you have synaptic, search for foomatic and install the drivers. Most printers are supported. Some important packages are foomatic-db, foomatic-db-engine, foomatic-gui, foomatic-filters, foomatic-filters-ppds (the last deb is huge, so download only the prebuild ppd for your particular printer).
Configure CUPS (install cupsys- cups server) and install a gui (preferably qtcups or gtklp). You can also access the web-interface with your browser at port 631.
