I am trying to install Redhat 9 on ASUS (A7N266-VM) Motherboard having AMD XP 2200+ (1.8Ghz) processor.
After installation the system freezes on:
"Finding module dependencies:"
I dont know how to go about getting my Redhat 9 to work. Its a dual boot with Windows. I am using LILO as my Boot-Loader. My keyboard locks up as well as I can't do Ctrl + C at that point.
Is there some specific kernel parameter required for AMD Systems? Or is there any other linux distro which would work on this system.
TIA.

Rupesh, I had similar problems with the same config but RH 8. I threw RH 8 away and tried Debain. I could get a workable shell but no X. After much frustration I tried Knoppix 3.1. Suprise, the system went live and was ready to use. X runs in the VESA mode but, it doesn't use the nVidia GeForce HW acceleration.
I suggest you do the following: 1. Get Knoppix 3.1 2. Boot with the following params: knoppix lang=en 3. Run knx-hdinstall. This uncompress the CD and dump executables on your HDD. X Should run now. Sound should work too :) 4. To use all the features of the MB go to nvidia.com and download the corresponding drivers for X and use them (I haven't tried this)
Alternatively, you can try running RH using drivers from nV (also untried).
This should get things running. If they don't you can always send me a message :).
Warm wishes,
Amol Hatwar.
I suspect that is a Nforce motherboard Two issues with it one you need to install LILO and the other is graphics would only be available after you install Nvidia video driver and GL component available from Nvidia site

I would say ty gentoo and as for the nvidia trouble you need the nvidia auto installer you can get that from their site its a file called NVIDIA_Linux-x86-1.0-4349.run it will download and compile and install the nvidia drivers on your system you might need to do a modprobe nvidia later.

the n-force motherboard has DMA disabled as default enable it
also download the latest display/sound drivers from Nvidia( earlier intel-i810 sound drivers were used )
caution: the Nvidia drivers are closed source but i guess u have no choice since u have already purchased the hardware mandrake 9.0 and 9.1 work well with these drivers and this hardware
all the same if you don't want to run X just change the runlevel and give it the alsa drivers for i810

You should try Morphix 0.3 as it detects most hardware without any problems, and also provides you with an English language wizard to install Morphix on your hard disk. This is something Knoppix does not provide. It's wizard is in German.
