I'm a member of another LUG. On the LUG mailing list, someone made the mistake of referring to "Linux 7.1". Here is Eric Ortega's reply:

Confusing the kernel with the rest of the distribution is an easy mistake to make in the beginning but it's like dragging your fingernails down a chalkboard to people who know a little bit more. It's in your best interest to clarify the difference in your own mind if you hope to present yourself as anything more than a wholly helpless (and therefore not worth the effort) newbie. Once you square that small thing away will you have already opened up many more avenues for help. :)
