Hi all,
If my Machine RAM size is 2GB , then Is it possible to define swap of 4GB.
In many documentation "swap" is declare double the size of RAM and also mention that it should not increse 2GB.
Confused ???
help.

What application(s) are you using? What does "free" say with these applications running?
I have not tried defining a swap of 4GB (have not had the need for it). If the installer(s) limit it to 2GB, then you can define muliple devices for swap (2GB each) and activate them with the same priority number in your /etc/fstab file.

At 2 Gb RAM, you don't need swap. It would be a mere formality.
It depends on what application is running - a large database, an enterprise application, a number crunching application may use up all the RAM and need swap. I recall, in 2003 SGI came out with a system that supported 384GB of RAM (NUMA).
For average usage (desktop, file sharing etc.) you are right, 2GB is plenty :)
