Folks,
I travel from Pune to Mumbai and back regularly. I don't reserve tickets usually, but I thought of doing so this time.
I booked my tickets through the MSRTC Volvo online reservation center at Parihar Chowk, Aundh.
To my surprise, I was in for a shock. They were using Mozilla Firefox as the browser and the application was made in PHP. Wow! I was initially assuming that the Firefox was used on Windows, but when I went close, I realized, it was Fedora Linux. Wow! Amazing
Superb! I'm so happy to see something like this!
Have you had any such experiences in the past? Is MSRTC using Linux distros at all its booking centers?

Ah yes, the one at Arya Hotel. It was using a DOS based system until (I think) a couple of months ago. it really was a semi-pleasant surprise to see the new reservation system. Semi because I think I remember seeing an ugly scrolling marquee (or was it something blinking?) at the top of the page for no apparent reason.
That said, I do hope they make the system truly online like train reservations. One can take an ugly marquee any day in exchange for a few saved calories ;)

Oh well, looks like some local windows geek got through to them and told them they did not need Linux for firefox. I checked today and they're back on Windows with firefox.
Meh.

Oh no! I was assuming that often, companies / corporations like these, do not change any settings / configs when it is working fine. Plus, they don't take up changes to systems so easily.
How did that Windows geek get through? Darn!

Central Bank of India has made its on-line banking Linux compatible. Right from creating the first login password to regular use, making reports etc.
