Hi,
I just installed Redhat 7.2, with lilo not on the mbr.
So I created a boot disk, and it booted fine, till I lost the disk.
Now I am trying to put a RH 8 cd, get at the boot prompt, and type stuff like
boot: linux image=/dev/hbb1
but I still cant boot of my hdd.
I know it can be done, as I have done it before. I am still trying to find an answer on the net....
Thanks Shahed.
hi shaheed, use xosl http://www.xosl.org . its an excellent utility distributed under gpl, small efficient and open source install it after booting with a windows boot disk(i assume u have windows on ur first primary partition) i currently have 6 operating systems installed on my pc right now on various partitions u can install xosl on a dos partition or on a seperate partition of its own.its entirely writen in c++ in case u want to tinker with it. it comes complete with its gui and u will be surprised at the animation considering dos's 1 mb limit supports windows,gnu/linux/,freebsd,nt,2000,xp don't remain dependent on the boot floppy and do away with ur floppy troubles
===== ninad purohit have a nice day :-)

This used to work in 7.3, no idea about what all has changed in 8.0
Type "linux rescue" when you boot from the CD. This will try to autodetect your root partition from the harddisk, and then will inform you about the path where it was mounted. Just chroot to that place and then run "/sbin/lilo".
But I don't know how this works when using GRUB as the bootloader.

Hi,
I do not think that it might be possible to have all the workshops together. Our ILUG-BOM group does conduct workshops, keep in touch and you will get the info about it. If you are in a hurry then I can arrange for a paid tutor who can teach you all the stuff in a few days. Get in touch with me at this address. With a appropriate subject please, like TUTOR for linux. or something like that so that it gets my attention. Hey, I forgot to mention, welcome to the real world. Bye.

Each one has a howto dedicated to it at the LDP, I think.
