I am getting a choice of braodband access in the sense that I am being offered DSL (Dishnet) and Cable access (Hathway). both are costing *almost* the same as far as monthly/yearly dues, though if I opt for a personal cable modem, I will have to pay a little more (~8000 bucks) for the modem.
I want to know if someone has used these services. Which one would be preferable. What should I look out for ? What are the queries I need to get answered from both these chaps ? I already asked if they are blocking port 80 as I will get a static IP and would like to host my site myself. The guy I spoke to did not know about the port 80 stuff so he will get back to me.
regards,
Sharukh.

what you should ask them is this:
1. are they giving IPs through DHCP. If they don't understand that, say Dynamic Host Protocol - somehow they seem to understand that.
Ask them what is the IP address you will get. You will recognise easily that 192.168.1.* means they are NATing you or proxying you. Ask them things like are you allowed to do MSN/Yahoo chat, voice chat, can you download music, etc.
I'm almost certain that all cable wallas provide a winproxy bases system, but don't know about DSL.

I use hathway, speed is great and stay's constant through the day/night. but they charge per mb downloaded so you end up paying huge download bills assuming you download that much.
hathway blocks port 80
