Hi there, sify's linux client sucks. So I dont recommend using it. Try using the Mac OS client. Its in Java so you can run it on linux. I dont have a sify connection so I dont know what kinda settings you need to make on the ethernet card.

You need to download the Sify client for Linux from their site. Try visiting any website without connecting, and you would be led to their download site.
You can setup your ethernet card using the "neat" command from the console. Your IP address, netmask and default gateway (probably 10.10.251.1) should be the same as in Windows. Sometimes, the problem occurs with MAC address because Sify binds to your MAC address. You may need to contact their crappy customer support to reset your MAC settings.
You can then connect using the command "sifyconnect -l".
If you need a GUI client similar to windows, then you can download their client for MAC OS. This is written in Java, so you would also need to download the java runtime environment (jre1.5.0_02).

Hi there, I've been using the linux client to login, and as Dinesh said, it really sucks. The daemon uses 100% cpu if started by a non-root user. I'm gonna try out the MacOS one :) Thanks for the info. Also, here is the address of the page that pops up from where you download the dialer: http://210.210.4.76:81/downloaddialer.php (I guess it should be same for us all).
Here's another secret: If you want to check your user accout details, go to http://210.210.4.76:81/bbandnew/cusdetails.php3?userid=<put_your_id_here> You can actually put anyone's id in its place, so you can also see what accounts your friends are using! Super-sify-security ;)

No need to call their crappy support. It's very simple to change the MAC address on the adapter. He just needs to know the MAC of the interface his ISP has bound him on. Then a simple ifconfig command would rescue him ;)
