Subject: [ILUG-BOM] [OT] MTNL DSL - NU plan billing snafu?
I got my MTNL bill a few days ago. For the NU Plan the charge is Rs. 590 (unlimited usage 00:00->08:00) plus additional usage charge to the tune of Rs. 6304!
I have already complained to MTNL in writing but have not heard from them yet.
Ok this is just my nightmare turning true here.. There is this site http://register.mtnl.in where you can see your usage. Does this show the same amount ? Do you look at this freq. or u got conned by the 'MTNL hai to sahi (lootnewala) hai' crap..
I had a similar fiasco with MTNL Dolphin where I could not suppress this urge to try GPRS. In the end they had no coverage in my area, they "activated" it without telling me, they sent me the bills (2 months late usually) . I called up and asked them to turn it off. 2 months later I find they guy who lied to me that GPRS was off and he bloody disconnected the phone. I get more bills after which I am asked to go to their mecca "Prabhadevi" to settle this. The guy there says I need to pay his insane bills before they disconnect my line. So now I have no alternative, to go the Screw you, you can KMA 6 months and a registered letter for corrected bills down the line, I haven't heard from them. I have switched to a Orange Prepaid and am paranoid of telephone companies.
I have recuperated (why ???) and signed up now for MTNL triband *) after a fellow idiot is giving it rave reviews before getting the first bill.

Hehe. I had a lot of arguments with MTNL when I converted my prepaid to post paid a few months ago. I went in for their "plan-g". For 3 months I got bills for Rs.220 only and now all of a sudden I got a bill for Rs.872! I complained to them but there wasn't much I could do. So I told them to activate the itemized billing. Lets see what happens...
Bottom Line: Go in for pre-paid services of MTNL. They are good. DONT go in for metered or post paid services.

The site is http://register.mtnl.net.in/. Yes, I had been checking my usage regularly up until July end. Although the session usage report displayed beyond the allotted 500MB for the NU plan (downloaded SuSE 9.3 Pro DVD - 4.3GB spanning several nights), the bill for July was correct i.e. downloads in 00:00->08:00 were not counted. I had no reason to suspect that I would be in this hole in Aug. and Sep.
The session usage reports for Aug and Sep are a nightmare. Even the name on the account is not up to date! It is reporting 0 bytes billed for sessions where I know I had traffic and 400MB for sessions when I downloaded 700MB during 00:00>08:00. It does not make any sense at all. I thing they upgraded the metering software and/or the billing software and are unwilling to admit glitches in them or in their rollout of the same.
CAUTIONARY ADVICE: Those who have the TriBand service, especially the NU plan, keep a close watch on your usage. Terminate/Start your PPPoE login session @ 00:00 and 08:00 to delineate your usage report for peak and off peak hours. Pls. contact me off list if you see any anomaly.
