Have a look at the diald-Howto for dial on demand.
If you dont want to add too many options, just adding `demand' in your pppd options file is enough. In this case you have to specify the default route specifically. Long back I wrote a howto, you may find it in the archives.

The archive has a search engine. Replace /listinfo/ above with /search/ to get the search engine.
