Open Source The Returns On The Emerging Technology A comprehensive insight on the path-breaking technology ON September 24 - 25, 2004 Timings: 9:30 AM 5:00 PM Organised by Iducate Managers
Intruduction The rapid pace in which the Linux and the Open Source Movement have been developing meteorically in the recent years is being watched upon very closely by the entire world. The Open Source movement is an extremely powerful model for software development and advancement, and emerging economies like India particularly have a lot to gain from adopting it. In the information age, value is based not on scarcity but on familiarity" - This is the seed thought for the movement. Open Source technologies is a term used to define those technologies which is available to the public in source code form, and which does not have licensing restrictions Open Source software generally is distributed under a license that guarantees the right to read, modify, redistribute and use the software freely. Much of the open source software is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL).
Objective
To understand the Open Source Technology and achieve clarity of thinking for making cost-effective information technology based decisions. A further take-home would be a freedom of choice on decisions of softwares, an insight into the value-added benefits of the Open Source Technology and best-practices for smooth migration.
Open Source is doing what GOD, government and market have failed to do.
It is putting powerful technology within the reach of cash poor but idea-rich people.
Just imagine what the cash rich can do with it???
And, YES That is Revolutionary!!!
Helping the
Industry discover the benefits of Open Source Technology
Linux and the Open Source Movement have been developing rapidly in recent years and are now seen as serious competitors. There are millions of user/s world-wide. Some of most successful and robust software on the web today has been developed under this license. IBM and Oracle are now among the 'big names' supporting Linux and have released Linux versions of their database server products. A high-powered lab has been set up to encourage open source development and research. Among the sponsors are Dell, Fujitsu, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Intel, NEC, Mitsubishi, Red Hat and SGI.
The Indian government, too, in connivance with the President of India is promoting usage of Open Source software as the "platform of choice". The Department of Information Technology has already devised a strategy to introduce Linux and open source software as a de-facto standard in academic institutions, especially in engineering colleges. Research establishments have also been advised to use and develop re-distributable toolboxes just as Central government departments and state governments has been asked to use Linux-based offerings.

Do u understand GOD, if no then why to put references, if yes please explain your sentence explicitly. If u believe in GOD then u should know that GOD can not fail, if you dont beleive in GOD, then your sentence refere to something which does not exists.

Hi Balwinder! It's easy to get offended by personal interpretation of someone else's remarks, even when the speaker had no intention of malice. I think most will agree with me here when I say that, on a medium such as this, where emotions are not clearly visible, one must 1. be careful as a speaker and 2. be tolerant of certain excited remarks as a reader, especially when the intent is obviously harmless or playful at best.
Let's not forget that we are a community of responsible geeks ;) and that this forum allows us to build synergistic associations. I am sure you agree as much.
cheers! Rahul

The quote was taken from the World Wide Web at "http://people.mech.kuleuven.ac.be/~bruyninc/linux/economy-oss.html". It was not intended to comment on the Superpower but just a loud thought on the attributes and openings with the concept of Open Source. Its real sad that you have miscontrued the whole write-up, instead of seeing its positive outlook!! Personally, I believe in: "Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be" Isnt it true that our life shapes up the way it is only due to our actions/inactions. Do you need any further explanations??? I will only be too glad to provide them for you, just let me know.

[ah] Please cut it out both of you. If you still want to fight you're free to do so provided you take your battles off the list.
