If any of you plan on using the latest yahoo messenger for linux, be warned that it adds itself to your .xinitrc file - even if you tell it not to run on startup. After this, X will not start again. You will have to delete the entry from your .xinitrc file first.
On a sort of related note, as of a couple of days ago Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/) which I use to connect to Yahoo Messenger refuses to log me in with a version mismatch. Yahoo has obviously updated its protocol again without telling the rest of the world. I've tried the latest CVS version (doesn't work) and posted a bug report at the Gaim site... let's see what happens.
