I have RED HAT 9 kernel ver 2.4 running on my P4. The problem is my R= ealtek LAN card RTL8139C isn't auto detected by linux and if try to add it = then if shows "Device not present delaying initialization" at boo= t up. There is a problem definately with the driver as the same card works = well for Windows network.
Please suggest me some means to solve the p= roblem..

Try running kudzu from a root login on runlevel three ... that worked for me. It will put all the necessary settings in all the insanely difficult to find locations and the card should be detected next time you reboot.
Sameer.

There are other settings you need to play around also..those are 1. PnP OS = yes/NO 2. Reset Configuration data = ENABLED/disabled 3. resources controlled by = auto/MANUAL
try the CAPSed settings first and then see if the card is being detected. otherwise try combinations from above and each time check if the card is being detected. And by chance, do you have additional pci card, or for that matter another realtek pci card, in the same machine?
Also the realtek website provides a diagnostic utility for the card. It is supposed to be run from safe mode command prompt (yeah, M$). If the utility could find and diagnose the card well, the card should be detected in Linux, or try noting down the configuration info (irq/io) given by this util and pass them to kernel directly.
also make sure that you are using "8139too" module

try changing the pci slot. Normally this card is detected and installed right during the installation process when it asks you for your ip, dns and gateway address. Regards Sachin Nair
