I have successfully installed Oracle on Fedora, had no problems at all.

What did you mean by redhat linux 5.4 ? is it Redhat Enterprise linux 5.4 or Centos ?

The OUI does a check on /etc/redhat-release to check the Linux version. Pretty lame way of doing things. You simply need to change the contents of the file to match an older version. Eg "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 4)" or another version older than RHEL 5; and run ./runInstaller again.
