Hi,
I have just created the template page for CDs4grabs for ILUG-BOM:
http://db.glug-bom.org/wiki/index.php/CDs4grabs
I feel the CDs available and CDs wanted can be removed as the above will cater to it.
This is similar to the CDs4grabs project at chennailug.org:
http://chennailug.org/wiki/?title=CDs_for_Grab
Any thoughts/suggestions welcome,
SK

Don't know about others, but I think, we could probably avoid the phone number field.
The rest appears fine to me. If all others _*agree*_, they could themselves shift their details to this page, and I would delete the other tow.

Yeah phone nos. can be very well exchanged by people by contacting each other by email. So, are CD's Wanted and CD's Available being deleted?

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
From my experiences so far, most people who have asked
me for CDs call me in my mobile. Of course, we mention the time to call (like after 6 pm or weekends only), so they don't disturb you at work.
Also in places outside Chennai, Internet connection is bad. So, people are not connected, or connection is pathetic. So, they prefer to call you up. India is still a developing country.
I don't know about the Internet connection in the outskirts of Mumbai, but, I would assume that the situation is same. Even though this mailing list is for Mumbai-GLUG, we can look forward to spreading the CDs across Maharashtra.
Just my thoughts,
SK

i strongly object. this is *not* a glug - although some people may like to use g/lug. Linux is *not* a GNU project. If the FSF wants a kernel of their own - let them write one, not hijack the linux kernel. Even the FSF doesnt have the gumption to say GNULinux - the say GNU-slash-Linux.

This is Indian GNU/Linux User Group, Mumbai. If we had named it as a Linux User Group, I guess, RMS wouldn't have accepted an offer to give a public lecture. That's what I read from one page on gnu.org
Anyways, if he's not much concerned now, probably, any name would do.
(Request) And, lets stop getting in GLUG / LUG and GNU/Linux and Linux terms. We have emails, replies that are several times larger in size to that of wikipedia's article on the naming controversy.

Indian Linux Users Group Mumbai (ILUG), being a chapter of Indian Linux Users Group - ILUG. The GNU- slash part came later, I suspect without any discussion at all.
i strongly object. this is *not* a glug
really? Whenever anyone visits :
http://www.glug-bom.org/Data/ObjectType/I/ILUG-BOM/viewObjectType
they see "Welcome to Indian GNU/Linux Users Group of Mumbai!".
- although some people may
like to use g/lug. Linux is *not* a GNU project.
i don't think anyone has ever disputed that.
If the FSF wants a
kernel of their own - let them write one,
they are still doing it. People can say what they want, but the fact remains it is a design for the future and needs nurturing from the community to be complete.
not hijack the linux
kernel.
where does the question of ``hijack" come into picture? The Linux kernel is under a Free Software license(GPL) and can be combined without restriction with any project(s) to yield a complete operating system provided all the guidelines of the Free Software license are followed.
Moreover i think the FSF has ALWAYS made a very clear distinction between the kernel and the rest.

Okay ... now you're confusing this mailing list with an operating system.
There is a very simple precedent to be followed in this case. The FOSS tradition says that the decision of what to call the list (or the associated web-site) rests entirely with the founding members of the list. If you don't like it you can go and start your own list. This decision is not open to vote, unless the admins propose it. In any case a "strong objection" is a sign of intolerance.
Now common sense suggests that the easiest way to co-exist would be to stick to "your way" of expression in "your" speech - so if someone requests that a document authored by him/her should contain "Linux" and not "GNU/Linux" - we can respect that. But respect should always be mutual. Since everyone is already bored of this dispute, I suggest we just let things be and move forward.
Infact I would suggest that one should never change Linux to GNU/Linux or vice-versa in anything that one hasn't written him[/her]self. And if you're updating a page you must stick to the convention of the original author - unless you obtain his/her permission for digression. Let's follow this convention in general on the entire wiki. After all it is the FOSS way of doing things.

I fully agree. In order to keep the balance, I had mentioned GNU/Linux and its description in the beginning lines itself and then mentioned that for simplicity we call it linux. I thinks thats the way we keep it as it satisfies all expectations. I will edit it accordingly. Lets stop fighting over this.

i am opposing a change - not proposing a change. I am saying, let the url be what the original creators made it

sorry, I didnt notice that. I was a list member some time back - it was a LUG then. Somehow, in between, it has become a GLUG. I hope it was done after due deliberation. Anyway, gives me something to think about ...
Sometime Today, Harsh Busa assembled some asciibets to say:

we actually have two urls. Back when the list started, it was www.ilug-bom.org (or .com, I don't remember). When .in registration opened, we got www.ilug-bom.org.in. Last year, we got the secondary www.glug-bom.org in addition to www.ilug-bom.org.in.
Personally, I've opposed changing a domain because it breaks links on the web (and that's what I told Stallman when he suggested we change it to glug-bom).

well, now it is 50-50. Ilug-bom is there a glug-bom is there. It is clear that the original founders founded a lug. Also clear that Stallman suggested a change (not surprising). So was the change done after any discussion or announcement or just quietly slipped in? If the latter, it makes me very unhappy. Anyway the subject line still has [ILUG-BOM], and I hope no change is effected there without proper discussion and announcement - it would be a put-down on the list members if it was done 'on the sly'.

AFAIR, our's has always been a GLUG. I've been around only since a couple of years and am not aware of much of its history, but internet archive - web.archive.org suggests me so.

I remember having announced all changes/updates to the domain names on this list. Besides, both the domains are active and our services can be accessed from any of them.

I have added my entry to the this page, and if others too would like to, please do so, when you have some time to spare.
