i have been using amd64 laptop with linux for quite a while. no complaints about drivers wat so ever. also u can install 32 bit applications on 64 bit os. or even 32 bit os on 64bit hardware. HRB

Finally I have a C2d E6300 and intel dg965ry mobo with 2 100gb SATA hdd. After assembling this I came to know that the dg965ry is not supported by the linux kernel. I have to wait for a new release of the kernel to be included in some distro.
Any other pointers to this problem are welcome I virtualization a temporary solution..

One of our list members installed Sabayon Linux out of the box on this system. Sabayon is based on Gentoo.
