Hello:
For a project that I'm working on, I require that the customer's computer be accessible over the Internet.
Using dyndns, I'm able to allow inward HTTP and SSH connections. However, the IP address allocated to my DSL router is a public IP address.
I assume that if my ISP providing my DSL service were to also place me behind a NAT (allocate me a private IP address), then I'd have to rule out inward connections.
So, is my understanding correct ?
And do ISPs providing DSL based service always provide public IP addresses ?

Use DSL Router in Bridge more. You will get public IP directly on your PC.

Thanks for the input. I haven't heard of using DSL Routers in Bridge mode, and will read up on this topic. If this is something that I could configure on the router without having to talk to my ISP (seems unlikely), then this might prove useful.
From a few queries that I made during the day, I've learnt that some ISPs may
provide private IP addresses.
Thanks, everyone, who responded.
Have a nice day !

You can configure your DSL Router without the help of your ISP. At least I have done this on my DLink 502-T DSL Router from MTNL.

This is the case with most small time Cable Operators, they are using private IP Space for their customers. BTW, this is not legal for an ISP.

You are alway welcome. ;-)
