Hi everyone, I am currently running kernel 2.4.13 with XFS for my root partition. Since everyone was talking about ext3 and reiserfs I was just wondering how many people out there are using alternatives such as XFS and JFS. btw XFS is way cool and fast as hell.
Also I'm working on an iptables alternative for the IBM linux contest and purely out of curiosity I was wondering how many of you guys are developing any big linux app or utility. I dont ususally read about any linux programming stuff on this list, and just wanted to get to know more people into big time linux programming.
regards Vicky

Cool? fine ;-)
but can you quantify "fast as hell"? what do you compare it with?

Well, I wouldn't know about the big time, but I've had one GPL software release this year (The Xcyberoam GUI Linux client), which was frankly not a very big job, and am presently working on another couple of projects, which will see the light of day when I get some time off from work. I work mostly in C and C++, and a little Perl too.

Krishnan

I had tried reisefs.. good performance but RH 7.1 does not support it out of the box.. thus reinstalling and upgrading from cds is a pain.. thus shifted to ext3 after I was forced to delete linux partitions due to space limitations...

Actually, you only need to recompile your kernel. It isn't entirely necessary, but RH7.1 kernel is compiled with reiserfs debugging support, which throws up loads and loads of info in your log files. It also slows it down a bit.

I think you cant upgrade of reintall in case you screw up your installation... thus I said not out of the box
which throws up loads and loads of info in your log files. It also slows it down a bit.
