I need to buy a modem that works in Linux. Do all external modems work well on Linux, or do I have to be careful while making my choice?
Is there any internal modem that works well on Linux, because they are usually cheaper ...

hi see every external modem works properly on linux. but if u insist on internal modem then there r modems such as SM56 Of motorola. that provides with rpm that also for redhat distro only. where as rockwell provides 3rd party driver for internal modem, with free version of driver supporting only 14kpbs of ur modem bandwidth. n if u need full 56kbps then purchase the serial key for them for 14$ n enjoy.. i know this coz i am using the free version of it....

Sandesh, You are using at Linux today and probably FreeBSD tommorow. Get yourself a complete (external) modem. Since modems never spoil or there is no upgrades to faster modems, they are a safe expense. I have used USrobotics, DLink myself for years without problems on all Operating Systems.
