new 2.4.7 kernel doesn't boot - Linuxers

      I get this, right after it uncompresses:
Invalid compressed format (err=1)
and the system halts.
Kernel 2.4.7, Lilo version 21, Lilo in Linux root partition, under
1024 cylinders, IDE drive. 2.2.x gives no trouble.
