It is quite obvious what their point of participating in the event is about. I don't understand how a company which doesn't contribute to Linux is any positive/constructive way, can be allowed to participate in such an event. What is the criteria for participating in this apparently Linux event?
uummmm....that amongst others is why ILUG-D stayed away from the event.
Conversely, is there any way a Linux company can participate in an Microsoft promoting event and talk about the virtues of Linux?
Let us find out by proposing such a participation at next MS event and if they refuse try to highlight it in press. Unfortunately most of the main stream press does not know or care.

A FOSS event should ideally have no criteria for participation. The F stands for free=freedom after all.

The "care" or "don't care" depends on the writing style as well and not just the subject.

Hmm... one interesting thing here is that is M$ going to be allowed to criticize GNU/Linux, or spread their unique vision of how the world ought to be(which clearly conflicts every bit of GNU/Linux philosophy) most of the GNU/Linux crowd would not be very keen on coming to the event.

Correct. And what better way to do it than on M$ money. Leverage it fully and charge hefty premiums. Keep a foss speaker after every M$ speaker. Plaster the venue with GNU/Linux postives. Ensure that lug delhi has a nice stall adjacent to M$ so that the crowd moves to you AFTER visiting M$.
Conversely, is there any way a Linux company can participate in an Microsoft promoting event and talk about the virtues of Linux?
Unlikely. All the more reason to use the opportunity. What the hell are u afraid of anyway?. All u need is visibility and M$ might unwittingly help in getting you that. M$ is mean, crooked and a marketing machine and you have to (and u can) beat them at marketing. That would leave them with only meaness and crookednes.

Thanks for the link Rony :-)
It was nice to see that the New Delhi/Delhi LUG/GLUG ;-) members did an unofficial boycott of the event because M$ was a part of it.
