u nd i know the technicalilites.....for a dude who is tryin to come to terms with the fact the Linux ain't installable on windoZe, i can't take the liberty of tryin to get him to understand wat r the difference between a kernel and the OS as in whole.......

not true. see the linux router project. it is almost entirely kernel based. there are many uses of linux that do not require anything other than the kernel. embedded devices for example. gnu utils help us manage the system, they provide a user interface, but are not required where no interface is required.
