I dont think Sify gives the source code for the login process. They give it in an encrypted format. I was thinking of automating the sify login process too. If any one else is able to do it, please share with us.

Hello, People who are using Sify as their ISP have just gotten lucky as I have finally been able to automate the whole login/logout process using Expect. Now, I can login/logout just by pressing a single icon (infact, the same one)!!! Anyone interested in getting the code can mail me. -- Regards, Sanket Medhi, sanketmedhi@gmail.com

Here it is! What my script does is that it brings down the interaction required down to level zero. That is, instead of you having to type the command 'sifyconnect -l' and 'sifyconnect -o' to login and logout, you will just have to click a button to do both things, without you being needed to manually type in your username and password. I will try to improve its functionlity by modifying it over the course of time. I am thinking of adding logging facility to it. Will share if and when I do it.
The objective is to make the Sify dialer easy and convenient, even for beginners. But again, my scripts rely on the same *non-free* Sify client, I have just created a wrapper for it. What we need is a full-fledged *free* client which can be customized according to our needs. If there was one, I would never have had to create my own script. I would have to just edit the configuration files and connect directly.
Anyways, I am attaching the file with this mail. Go through the README for detailed instructions on setting up the script for your account. Any suggestions/comments are welcome. If you add some extra functionality to it or develop your own script, please share it with the community.
I accept donations in form of cash and cheque only :P

Hi,
Sometime back I remember making a "free" client for sify login. I never owned a sify account but a friend did.
Here's what I could figure out about the login process : It uses plain text passwords and its relatively trivial to make a login client in java.
Here's how I did it back then : 1. Capture the packets in ethereal and write a java client. :) simple !
The caveat was that the windows client sends keep-alive packets to the sify server with a 5 min window I guess.
I might have to hunt around and get the java client if you guys are interested.
regards,
C

I have used "ping -i <in secs> <gw ip>" as a simple keep alive mechanism.

Anyone has any experience on icecast streaming server?
Please let me know.
Thanks, Richard

I use the MAC version of the Sify client. No issues with it.
Amish.
can someone send a packet capture for Sify login so that we can put out a _real_ client?
Thanks.

right, but its a bit buggy. it shows astronomocal login durations normally. like once when i was logged in for about 2 hrs it showed me about 9 hours of login. dont know how that matters... just an observation. anyways it is much better than the linux client.
regards, navin
