hi all what are friend "cromium" (nice name ;)... ) says is... LET THE STUDENTS START WITH M$ AND ONCE THEY KNOW HOW TO USE THE COMP U SHIFT THEM TO GNU/LINUX(right??)
i certainly disagree dear, coz in that case what the students get to learn in windoze and not the compy.
i am off the veiw that the world today is having these probs in switching over bcoz **they have grown with windoze** now what we need is that a child when he starts learning how to use the computer, sud start off with gnu/linux right away... he will anyways have that problem in learning windoze so why not have that trouble for something better...
infact that is why i want to stress on the point that we shud aim at the spread to gnu/linux in the **schools** and i raised this point at GNUnify in pune too... we have been organizing workshops in engg colleges n all, WHY NOT TARGET A FEW SCHOOLS NOW?? this goes out as a spl request to ppl like trevor, dinesh bhai, dr nag. lets get to a few schools, at least as an experiment.. wat say?
regards Gurpreet

In and around Goregao, Dinesh could correct me if I am wrong, we started working with schools in Mumbai. Shastry and Dileep are also involved in this initiative. One day Prof.Jitendra Shah went to address the students's parents also. As the point has come up at gnunify also, it is equally important to address the parents along with students and teachers. One possibility is that when the parents meeting takes place in schools, in the schools that we have in contact, one of us should go there and speak to the parents and show them a demonstration too.
I second the idea Gurpreet, we should try to catch them young, and this is best done at schools.

We (Shastri and me) are trying to convert one school in Dahisar (Vidya Mandir) to GNU/Linux. But the progress is slow. We can sure use more hand for the work.
Prof. Jitendra had addressed the parents there, and the response was overwhelming. They were full of questions and they were willing to try something new.
Also, a very important point came up was of Indian language computing. Even school management was willing to supoort the GNU/Linux in whatever way they can.
Over all, the signs are positive. Only thing needed is hard work on our side to bring in more ppl.
