Network Manager is not detecting the USB DataCard.

Have you tried this?
1. Drop to a terminal and get root 2. Search for the path to usb_modeswitch or usb-modeswitch and usb_modeswitch.conf 3. Issue /path/to/usb-modeswitch -I -W -c /path/to/usb-modeswitch.conf 4. Check dmesg output to see if the mide has been switched
Of course, you'll also need to check if the device was correctly identified. Is it a Huawei card? Its ZeroCD mode identifier would be 12d1:1446.

Hi Kaushal,
Try looking for your device in the file device-reference.txt, which is available on Josua Dietze's website http://draisberghof.de
It would be a good idea to look up the device ID in switched mode either through Device Manager on Wibdows or on the internet.
Copy the block that refers to your device to a text file and replace usb_modeswitch.conf with it. Retry the procedure thereafter. You could also update your version of usb-modeswitch and usb_modeswitch-data.
You can look at the related posts on my blog http://freedune.wordpress.comfor some pointers. ---sent from my Notion Ink Adam---

Hi Kushal,
What method do you use to create the connection for your usb modem?
The general method for Tata Photon + is to first plug in the device and wait till its "CD" icon comes up. Unmount the "CD" from your desktop itself and wait for about half a minute. Then right click on the network icon on the top bar of your desktop and amongst the various lines there will be one line that says "Create a mobile broadband connection". Follow that option and create your connection with the appropriate settings. Then again right click on the network icon. This time since there exists a connection you made, you will not get the earlier "Create....." option. Now simply select "Edit Connections" and in the mobile broadband section and check that the user name and password match your service provider's requirements. For CDMA (Tata Photon or Reliance Netconnect) your dialling number should be #777. For Tata the username and password is 'internet' for both. For Reliance it is 'device mobile number' for both. Now simply left click on the network icon and among the various connections, select the one you made for Tata and it should get you on-line.
Hi Kaushal, the latest version would be available in source form on the draisberghof.de website, and installs easily. Otherwise, you can also use apt-get or synaptic to get it from the repos.
We are currently busy in making the modems work on a hacked copy of android honeycomb with outdated kernels, so I can't offer much help with matching the output with my ubuntu desk to. However, I have usually seen that waiting a few minutes for the mode to flip with network manager usually helps. If your problem persists, the forums on draisberghof.de are a good place to seek help, and there are many other users who have reported similar problems in the past.

Hi Rajeev,
Please check for the presence of the following, and get them if possible: 1. Root access 2. Terminal emulator 3. PPP support in your kernel or a kernel module that you can insert, for which you'll require the kernel source code 4. Same for usb-serial support 5. Same for Option modem driver support (this is the name of the company that originally created the ZeroCD mode switchable units) 6. Some say slhc and ppp_generic drivers are also required
Please check the proceedings here [ http://tabletroms.com/forums/showthread.php?510-Success!-3G-USB-modems-now-w...] to see how we're progressing.
Frankly, I am surprised how a no-name Chinese manufacturer could give you a tablet with Honeycomb on it, when Google has restricted access to the source code to a few partners, but anyway, this is very interesting. What is the so-called brand, and how much did you pay for it? Is it this one? [ http://www.teask.com/android-2-3-gingerbread-tablet-with-samsung-s5pv210-cpu... ]

Hi Rajeev,
Please check for the presence of the following, and get them if possible:
- Root access
Check - Yes
- Terminal emulator
Check - Connectbot local working, with 'su' also adb root shell
- PPP support in your kernel or a kernel module that you can insert, for
which you'll require the kernel source code
Currently running on the Bena kernel - 2.6.35.7-bena-a2p3, so i guess it's for android 2.3, hacked on with 3.0 userspace on top. Cant seem to find any reference to ppp in the dmesg output, but a couple of invocations to pppd seen to run without errors.
Also, ppp inside pptp vpn connections worked fine, so i'm guessing i have fully functional ppp stack.
4. Same for usb-serial support
Works fine, can even talk to the modem via at commands in a in-out cat session.
- Same for Option modem driver support (this is the name of the company
that originally created the ZeroCD mode switchable units)
usb_modeswitch is active, and switching the mode to make ttyUSB0-3 active. so i guess that hurdle is passed
- Some say slhc and ppp_generic drivers are also required
Well, lets see. if i can get async ppp working first, then we ty this :P
So, right now, i'm working on writing the correct chat script for reliance, but have not had the time to really sit on it.
Please check the proceedings here [

Frankly, I am surprised how a no-name Chinese manufacturer could give you a tablet with Honeycomb on it, when Google has restricted access to the source code to a few partners, but anyway, this is very interesting. What is the so-called brand, and how much did you pay for it? Is it this one? [

Close, it's an older version of the same, the one with the oval+round buttons instead of the slim rounded buttons on the side. This identifies itself as a Focus-MID in fastboot, and on forums is more popularly known as a Herotab M816.
The touchscreen is really bad, and camers+g-sensor are inoperative, but other than that, honeycomb is mighty stable on this, with almost no crashes or FC's, and even the market works great(though it's the gingerbread market, still looking for the honeycomb apk's).

Currently running on the Bena kernel - 2.6.35.7-bena-a2p3, so i guess it's
for android 2.3, hacked on with 3.0 userspace on top. Cant seem to find any reference to ppp in the dmesg output, but a couple of invocations to pppd seen to run without errors.
Also, ppp inside pptp vpn connections worked fine, so i'm guessing i have fully functional ppp stack.
Another way to check is if /etc/ppp has the chat scripts etc. and if the kernel throws up errors when you try to run the dialer. Seems this is OK in your case.

Please let us know if you succeed. It would be very helpful.

This continues to be interesting. If you get more information on the hardware used, you could join the tabletroms site and start a thread for your generic model. Also check XDA, if you haven't yet.
