Hello There, I need to know If there is an online (dowloadable or otherwise) verion of a good book on C/C++ like Dennis Ritchie / Bjarne Stroustroup... Ditto for Unix. N/W prog. like Richard Stevens... I had seen the 2nd Edition and felt it was mostly about how different commands work..And feel I can get this info from MAN... Or am I wrong? BTW who is the publisher for: - 8. The Art of Computer Programming, Vols. 1 - 3 (just do Vol 1 first, else you'll reel under information overload!) - Donald E. Knuth I wanted to see the " contents ", if the publisher has a website. I wud be thankful If somone posts the ISBN no. of this book :) Thnx. for the help in advance... I already have some books.. courtesy.. LUG site.. Bye, SP

Hi Kompalli SuryaPrakash,
I need to know If there is an online (dowloadable or
otherwise) verion of a good book on C/C++
U can find the full book *Thinking In C++ -by Bruce Eckel* on his website which is http://www.BruceEckel.com U'll have to roam a little bit around to find exact location of the download page .. Both pdf and html versions are available for download. Even his other famous book *Thinking In Java* is also available for download .. I found both the books to be very useful .. Some other good resourses can be found at http://www.ncst.ernet.in/~guru/oopc/repository.htm Again not very sure of exact location of the repository page but u'll find appropriate link on the oopc page .. Hope it'll be useful to u :-)
Warm Regards, $ sonpal -kj

Thinking in C++ by Bruce Eckel. I found that a good introduction to C++, but not much beyond that ... you could consider it a primer for anyone who wants to take on the full might of Stroustrup :-)

Why don't you just buy th Ritchie book? It is an Indian edition (PHI) and very affordable.
As for the Stevens reference, seems like you've got the wrong book (maybe TCP/IP Illustrated?). Look for "Unix Network Programming" by the same author.

Don't remember, but they are all Indian editions. Why don't you call up Computer Bookshop (Tel. Nos. 2317922/3/4, email cbsbom@giasbm01.vsnl.net.in) and get availability and price info from them? I bought my copy from them.

Krishnan
