hi grp
need to know few things. If u tried ubuntu the grub which comes has a table format , how is that made? can that be removed without compiling a new kernel? . I just want to make a cool grub splash screen and i dont want that box and those notes. one solution is to change the color of the box and the text. But itz not the correct way.

Hi, The /boot/grub/menu.1st file can be edited to change the appearence, the text displayed, the timeout, the kernel to be booted and many other things. You dont need to compile a new kernel, the file must simply have the info to boot the kernel(s). (man grub for more details)
It seems that you are trying to change more than just the colour and text, dont know if thats possible, but I found a few links that you may find helpful: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/LG/current/jayanth.html http://www.openbg.net/sto/os/xml/grub.html

You will need to compile in appropriate support options in your kernel for it.
