Hi All Read a thread on ASUS/SIS and here is my story.
Firstly it seems to be linux compatible. http://www.linux-tested.com/results/asus_ab-t2301.html
A year and 2 months before i bought a compaq s5030il which has sis651 chipset 128 ram and p42.6ghz pre loaded with turbo linux. In the first week it started with sudden hangup.
What kernel. Kernels below 2.4.19 could be a source of problems under very specific combination of conditions (but unlikely). After how much time does it stop. Run the board with some heavy load like kernel compile. If it hangs earlier u have a thermal problem. Use in a chilled room.
I've been having a similar peculiar problem, but the need for frequent rebooting has pointed me to the possible reason for failure: one hard disk (which just happens to be my system disk, with both Win98 and RH) keeps going off. On opening the box I find this disk is quite hot. My guess is it's heading towards failure. I plan to mirror it onto another disk at some point and save my data. It is definitely not an OS problem.
