Hello GNU/Linux lovers,
Hello everyone, I am new to this group and this is my first mail. I am also new to Linux and have a doubt. I want to run Internet Explorer and Office or any other good Windows program in Linux. Is there a way to do it?
Thanking in advance.
Hi,
KOffice, OpenOffice can handle your documents, presentations, spreadsheets etc as efficiently (rather more) than dear M$.
Mozilla, Lynx, Konquerer ... etc are great for viewing websites. there are better mail clients so at the end of the day why do want to run M$ app from Linux when you have better alternatives.
still if u want to use IE/ Office try using WINE - it does a decent job for lightweight M$ apps but u cant be sure as it is still in development.

Hi,
I use vmware. Its commercial, and its probably not quite the same as WINE , but it does allow me to test network apps between linux and windows, without having another physical machine.

okay... point by point. Internet Explorer sucks. I mean.. why would you want to use such a crappy piece of shit with more holes than a net? Use Mozilla, Phoenix, Konqueror, Opera, or anything else that you like...
M$-Office. Again, you have OpenOffice.Org which is there in pretty much every new distro. Still, I understand that you may want some obscure functionality for which you absolutely need that M$-tool-for-world-domination. Try your luck installing winex-CVS from http://www.frankscorner.org
Hello GNU/Linux lovers,

LOL! That was too much! Indeed Mozilla is way ahead of IE in a lot many aspects. It's got tons of thoughtful new features that bring joy to the act of browsing and make even IE 6 feel like a spartan bare-bones browser. Mozilla is also ahead of IE 6 where implementation of the latest CSS2 specifications is concerned. And yeah, security-wise too it's better than IE.
An aside: I recently compiled Mozilla 1.2.1 with optimizations for i686 and on my Celery 770 Megger, it rocks. It even out-performed the pre-compiled for i386 Galeon in everything from loading time to rendering huuuge /. discussions in nested mode.
