Dear Friends,
The Debian Live team is pleased to announce the first beta of Debian Lenny's Live images.
Although we missed releasing images for Etch along with the installer images, we are now prepared to release live images within the regular Lenny release process. This is the first official release of Debian Live and the whole team has been working hard during the past 2.5 years to make Debian's own live systems become a reality.
Nevertheless, we do need your help to find more bugs and improve the live systems, so please try them out. The images are available at:

Almost done downloading. :-) The problem is I don't have a blank disc right now, so will have to look for a way on how to use a USB instead.

Aye, only 60 more MBs to go now... Downloading the USB image will take 7 more hours.

Is there any guide available on how to use the USB images?

Yes. See: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianLive/Howto/USB
Skip first section of this Howto, go to 2nd one (Linux) section and read it.

Thanks... Will try it out.

I had tried out the KDE iso http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/lenny_live_beta1/i386/iso-cd/debian-live-l...
Everything looks normal except that the pppoe packages are few and pppoe-discovery returned and error. So the pppoe area needs some tweaking.

Dear Rony,
Thanks for trying it.
Can you please give more details? You can also file bug report. Use 'reportbug' tool for that.

Hi Kartik,
The normal weekly build CD1 [dated Sept 1] doesn't load GNOME, even when "desktop" is selected in the installer. Do we need CD2 as well? Also, what's the meta package for installing the default GNOME including all the administrative packages?
Best, Atanu

I will try out the bug report tool.
If you type pppoe and tab in command line, you will observe that some commands are missing, like pppoeconf, which is the main one. The pppoe-discovery too reported some error about a wrong device. I could not add those packages through apt as the net itself needed to be setup with pppoe and after distro installation, a user could get stuck there.
