Hi guys,
Since the website http://www.ilug-bom.org.in is hosted on a server at TIFR ( i think so ) , can we have an IRC server set up there so that, there can be more interaction, fast responses and good discussions ? As for improving the ettiquete of this mailing list , we can invite people who make mistakes to a room at IRC and teach them the proper way. And also, i think it will also compliment this wonderful mailing list. I request Sir Nagarjuna to look into this.
Regards, Saurabh Sawant ! :)

Being online for a discussion is a big problem, in terms of time... everyone is working somewhere or other... and most of us download mails from this mailing list and read them offline (at least me)...

when one registers with this list, first mail that mailman sends is regarding list ettiquets... its better that we watch our own self...

First is to try chatting on freenode jabber etc. I dont see why we need anything better than that.

Hi,

Well, an IRC ``server'' is going to be a waste. We already experimented with having a channel for ILUG-Bom on Freenode but it failed pwing to lack of interest, time and most importantly awareness. I suggest we should at least get initiated with using the #ILUG-Bom channel on irc.freenode.net before we launch our own IRC server (if at all, that is) HAND -bhaskar-
===== It is NEVER Linux OS. It's ``GNU/Linux'' OS. For more info follow this link --> http://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.html

Yes IRC would be a very good thing to have. We already have jabber installed on the server, which is being used by GNU. I can find out if the ILUG-Bom can use it too. But I dont think it should be a issue. Then again I am not very pro of having IRC on the LUG/BOM server.
Also there is alread a very well established room on the Freenode server viz. #linux-india. There was also a #ilug-bom room but im not sure if it still exist since all of us (people form ilug-del, ilug-bang, and ilug-bom) just pref being in #linux-india.
