Hi
The contents of the /proc/version file is not actually wierd it looks almost same as of urs on all systems of Red Hat Linux. This file gives you the version of Linux Kernel, GCC, the version of RedHat Linux installed in your system and dthat email id is of the development team of RedHat Linux so you can email the bugs to them.
The display message that you see at the time of login comes from the /etc/issue and /etc/issue.net files.
If your logging in through the local terminal in text mode just change the /etc/issue file to what ever you want and that will be displayed everytime you try to login. If you are trying login remotely using telnet or SSH just change the /etc/issue.net file and it will show you the message that you want at the time of login. these changes are permanent and needs to be done only once.
I hope i have answered your query.
