The title is misleading. FLOSS is the future. Others will have to waste time trying to manipulate. As the size and complexity of projects increase it would be impossible for any one group to provide resources or have the staying power to see projects through. It is already visible in the semiconductor industry where consortiums are built to fund and develop the next generation of equipment and processes. Collaborative methods similiar to the ones deployed by FLOSS would be the only method of providing continuity and results. New metrics for assigning value and rewarding contributions will automatically arise and the old ones of hoarding wealth by a few would die.
A very interesting study at http://www.infonomics.nl/FLOSS/report/index.htm

For starters, maybe the topic could read "FLOSS: Can It Influence The Future". Manipulate sounds so negative! Or is that your intention?
