May be every mail client is not smart enough. Gmail web interface show it as single mail (that is how cross post is supposed to work to reduce bandwidth and multiple mails). You won't even notice it unless you click on see details. Same with thunderbird, it shows it as one mail only.
See screenshots. What mail client are you using? Or does it depend on the mail server?

Actually, 7KB. People rarely ever type mails larger than ~7KB and send to the list. This limitation helps us cut down on automated invitations sent by unsuspecting users and untrimmed replies to digest mails. Attachments aren't allowed either.
