This is a really important concern for Linux. Though it is powerful and flexible ,most people are not aware of it's advantages. Most of the people think it's a *cheap software* which is not worth working on or they have the impression that it is too hard to work with and only for geeks. This is contrary to the facts. Unfortunately your teachers seem to be among the ignorant lot. But luggers the fact is most of the people actually fall into these categories whether we like it or not. Hence the need for Installation fests and initiation of people into linux by some means to dispell these notions. Count me in if something is to be done in this regard. I feel we have to something on this count and popularise linux among the masses.

I agree.
I first checked out linux in 1998 when I loaded it on my PC from PCQuest CD. We faced a lot of problems at that time. We had to install it due to shortage of space. Later I tried once again, but could not find any use of it.
It was only last month that i finally got round to setting up a new version of Linux. We all (in the office) are suprised at how much work you can actually do on it. Except for Software Development (which I hope to learn), every thing else we do in office can be done just as easily and efficiently on Linux. If we were not working on important Windows Based software projects, I would probably consider switching over completely to linux in 2 months time (2 months being the transition period to get people trained and comfortable).
But till now, I was actually sceptical on loading linux, because of the reasons that vinayak has specified. I thought it would be difficult to install and use, and also I didnt think you could actually do work on it.
It is important to let people know and realise how much can be achieved on Linux, how easy it is for end users to operate and what software is available. I have started inviting friends over to come and have a look at how it works on my PC to get an idea of what it can do.
