Most of them just work out of the box. I have a cheap unbranded one which I got from Lamington Road some 2.5 years ago for Rs. 450/-. On windows, it used bluesoliel drivers. On linux it's just insert the dongle in the USB slot and start your software. Using gnome-vfs-obexftp and gnome-bluetooth, all the contents of supported phone models can also be accessed by nautilus. Tested this on Ubuntu 7.10.
